Reiki

So, What Is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice. The word Reiki is commonly translated as “universal life energy,” and the practice is based on the understanding that this energy flows through all living things.

During a session, I work with Reiki through a series of hand positions, either resting my hands lightly on the body or holding them just above it. I follow the energy and allow it to go where it's needed.

People experience Reiki in all sorts of ways. Some feel warmth, tingling, or a sensation of energy moving through the body. Others notice emotions, memories, or a sense of deep calm. Some fall asleep. And some don't feel much of anything during the session.

I've been practicing Reiki for more than 20 years, and one thing I've learned is that no two sessions are quite the same.

My Approach to Reiki

I care deeply about the people I work with, and I respect that everyone comes with their own experiences, beliefs, and reasons for seeking Reiki.

I won't tell you what you're supposed to feel, interpret your experiences for you, or insist that something happened if you didn't experience it that way.

I bring more than 20 years of Reiki practice, my own life experiences, and a genuine love for this work to every session.

I believe there's tremendous value in giving ourselves time to rest, reconnect, and receive care. And I believe we all deserve to be treated with kindness and respect, without having to earn it.

That's the kind of experience I want to offer.

And if you leave feeling a little lighter, more relaxed, or simply glad you took an hour for yourself, that makes me happy.

What Happens During a Session?

We'll spend a few minutes talking before we begin. You can ask questions, tell me anything you'd like me to know, and let me know your preferences around touch.

You'll remain fully clothed and can lie on the treatment table or sit comfortably, whichever works best for you.

Once you're settled, I'll begin working with Reiki. You can close your eyes, talk, rest, or fall asleep. I'll use a series of hand positions, with light touch or with my hands held just above your body, depending on your preferences.

When the session is finished, I'll give you a few minutes alone to gather yourself.

Afterward, we can talk about anything you noticed or experienced, if you'd like.

How I Found Reiki

I found Reiki at a time when I was looking for something different. I couldn't have told you exactly what I was looking for, but I knew I wanted to feel more connected to myself.

Something about Reiki stayed with me. I loved the quiet, the energy, and the way I felt afterward. It became something I returned to again and again, and eventually something I wanted to learn to offer to others.

More than 20 years later, it's still an important part of my life.

My relationship with Reiki has deepened over the years, particularly through my own experiences with childhood trauma and healing. It's taught me a great deal about slowing down, listening to myself, and allowing myself to receive care.

After Your Session

Everyone responds to Reiki a little differently. You might feel relaxed, sleepy, energized, emotional, or much the same as you did when you arrived.

I generally suggest leaving yourself a little breathing room afterward, if your schedule allows. Have some water, eat if you're hungry, and pay attention to what feels good.

Maybe that's a nap, an Epsom salt bath, a walk outside, or an afternoon doing absolutely nothing.

I wouldn't recommend scheduling a marathon, picking a fight with your spouse, or making any major life decisions on the drive home. Give yourself a chance to enjoy your post-Reiki bliss!

There's no need to analyze every sensation or figure out what it all meant. Sometimes the best thing you can do is enjoy the experience and get on with your day.
