The Following Resources May Be Helpful On Your Healing Journey

I've gathered some of the books, websites, and other resources that have been meaningful to me, along with places to find additional support.

Working through childhood trauma has taught me that there isn't one approach that works for everyone. Therapy has been an important part of my own experience, as have Reiki, flower essences, and other ways of caring for myself.

My hope is that something here might help you better understand what you're experiencing, find someone who can support you, or simply feel a little less alone.

I'll continue adding to this collection as I come across things I think are worth sharing.

Websites and Further Reading:

  • Blue Knot Foundation - Based in Australia, this website has a lot of useful information that is survivor-focused. It includes information about childhood abuse, neglect, complex trauma, coping, and recovery. I particularly appreciate that it recognizes the harm people experienced, not just their symptoms.

  • National Center for PTSD: Understanding Complex PTSD - Although this is a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs resource, the educational information isn't limited to veterans. It offers a clear explanation of CPTSD, how it differs from PTSD, and the effects of repeated trauma.

  • Doctor Gabor Mate - Dr. Mate offers a compassionate understanding of how childhood trauma, chronic stress, and unmet emotional needs can shape the nervous system, relationships, and sense of self. His teachings emphasize that many trauma responses are adaptations to difficult experiences rather than personal flaws, helping people develop greater self-compassion and reduce shame. Through his insights on trauma, emotional awareness, and healing, individuals with CPTSD may find validation, hope, and practical perspectives that complement professional trauma-informed therapy.

  • Doctor Ramani - This is a great resource for narcissistic abuse. She discusses gaslighting, blame-shifting, manipulation, and the confusion and self-doubt that can develop in emotionally abusive relationships. She offers a lot of workshops and resources on her website. Her videos and book It's Not You may be particularly helpful for those trying to grasp the confusing and extremely damaging world of narcissistic abuse.

  • Out of the Fog - This website is particularly relevant for people trying to understand manipulation, emotionally harmful relationships, guilt, and boundaries. It includes practical guidance about recognizing unhealthy behavior. Its framing centers on relationships involving personality disorders. It is specifically a relationship resource, rather than a general explanation of CPTSD.

  • Doctor Kristen Neff - Kristen offers information and practices for working with self-criticism and learning to treat ourselves with more kindness. She has workbooks and workshops and works well with presenting other notable speakers on this topic, like Jack Kornfield and Aimee Eckhardt.

  • Complex Trauma Resources - This website offers a collection of articles, books, videos, and educational material developed by people with experience of complex trauma.

  • Wings - Wings supports adults who experienced childhood sexual abuse. They offer educational resources, support groups, and help finding services. This website offers a safety exit option.

  • One Love - This website offers a lot of information on healthy relationships with the goal of bringing light to the signs of unhealthy relationship behaviors. The center offers support and education for young people, but good advice for those who were not taught what healthy boundaries and relationships look like.

  • What is Gaslighting article - This is an informative article on gaslighting which helped me to understand what gaslighting is. There is a lot more information available on this site that has been helpful as well. This website offers a safety exit option.

  • The Elephant Journal - Independent articles that focus on personal growth and wellness.
