Flower Essences

Some of my favorite moments are spent sitting quietly in nature, feeling the energy of the trees and flowers, listening to their whispers, and noticing the synchronicities that seem to draw us toward one another.

I feel the presence of nature spirits and the individual energy of the plants around me.

Sometimes there's a connection I can't explain, but I know when I feel it.

To me, this is magic.

Not as a metaphor, but as something I experience in my relationship with the natural world.

That connection is at the heart of my flower essence work.

I've spent years studying plants and their energetic qualities, but some of the most meaningful things I've learned have come from simply being with them, listening, and paying attention.

What Are Flower Essences?

Flower essences are preparations made from flowers and plants. Unlike herbal remedies or essential oils, they aren't used for the physical or chemical properties of the plant. Flower essence work is based on the understanding that plants have energetic qualities that can interact with our own emotional and energetic patterns.

Traditionally, flower essences are made by placing freshly gathered blossoms in pure water, often in sunlight. The resulting preparation is preserved and diluted for use, most commonly as drops taken by mouth.

Within flower essence traditions, essences are understood to work vibrationally with our emotions, long-held patterns, and experiences that have shaped us over time.

I find this work particularly meaningful when exploring patterns that began in childhood and continue to influence how we feel about ourselves, relate to others, and respond to the world.

Flower essences can bring emotions and patterns into greater awareness, sometimes in ways we weren't expecting.

And while flower essences are often described as gentle, I don't think that always tells the whole story.

Sometimes the experience is subtle. Sometimes you notice changes gradually. And sometimes an essence can knock you on your ass and make you reconsider things you thought you'd already figured out.

That's been part of my own experience, and it's one of the reasons I have so much respect for this work.

How I Work With Flower Essences

I create individualized flower essence blends based on the person I'm working with, rather than choosing an essence simply because someone is experiencing a particular emotion.

I'm interested in the bigger picture: the patterns we carry, the experiences that have shaped us, and the ways we relate to ourselves and others.

We'll talk about what's happening in your life, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like support with.

From there, I draw on my education, experience, and intuition to select essences that feel appropriate for you. My energetic connection with plants is an important part of this process, too.

I don't work from a formula that says one problem automatically calls for one particular flower. People are far more complicated and interesting than that.

For me, flower essence work is about more than addressing an uncomfortable emotion. It's also about developing awareness, recognizing patterns, and learning to understand ourselves with greater compassion.

And sometimes awareness is uncomfortable. Once you recognize something clearly, it can be difficult to go back to seeing it the way you did before.

I believe that kind of awareness can be an important part of meaningful personal change.

My Background With Flower Essences

I've been studying plants and flower essences for years, and I'm still learning. I hope I always will be.

My flower essence education has included the Bach tradition, David Dalton, the Flower Essence Society, and Emily Ruff, among others.

I've also spent years studying herbalism, including advanced clinical herbalism studies with Maria Noël Groves of Wintergreen Botanicals. Although herbalism and flower essence work are different practices, that education has given me a deeper understanding of plants and their many qualities.

I don't follow one teacher or one system exclusively. I've learned from different traditions, made my own essences, experimented, and spent a great deal of time getting to know plants in my own way.

I love the process of making flower essences, from spending time with a plant and getting to know its energy to gathering blossoms and preparing an essence.

Some of the plants I feel most connected to are the ones growing right here around my home. Others have found their way into my life through experiences and synchronicities I couldn't have planned.

There's always something new to discover, and I don't think I'll ever stop being fascinated by them.

The plants themselves are what keep bringing me back to this work. Their energy, their individuality, and the magic of the relationships we can develop with them.

And I love being able to share a little of that with others.
